In the end, the first semi-final at the Generali Open 2021 was also a race against the rain: Just as Daniel Altmaier was serving against the loss of the match with a score of 3: 5 in the third set, a small shower set in over the center court of the Kitzbühel tennis club. Pedro Martinez was not impressed by this - the Spaniard got Altmaier's serve and made it into the final of an ATP Tour tournament for the first time with 4: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 3.

There Martinez will face either tournament favorite Casper Ruud or the French Arthur Rinderknech on Saturday. Ruud has come with the titles in Bastad and Gstaad in his luggage, the Norwegian, understandably, did not seem quite fresh at his two appearances in Kitzbühel.

The match between Martinez and Altmaier was even in front of almost full grandstands - with the exception of a short period of weakness for the German at the beginning of set two, while Martinez was able to pull away to 4-0. In the decision, the Spaniard was rewarded for his more aggressive demeanor. Pedro Martinez's working day was not over when he made it to the finals: Later that afternoon, the double semifinals were to be played alongside Marc Polmans. The potential final opponents have already been determined: Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler from Austria.
