Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev had to wait a few minutes on this semi-final Friday. The previously scheduled women's doubles match went into extra time - which at least gave the spectators time to get to their seats on time. Anyone who didn't do this was clearly at a disadvantage. Because Jannik Sinner was in a hurry in the repeat of the 2023 final.

Twelve months ago, the South Tyrolean had major problems with the circumstances and suffered his sixth defeat in a row against Medvedev. Since then everything has been different. Daniil Medvedev has literally become Jannik Sinner's favorite opponent. Whether in Beijing, Vienna, at the ATP Finals or most recently at the Australian Open: Sinner and his team have found a formula to crack Medvedev. However, this had not yet been as clearly the case as in Miami.

Sinner with a bad record against Zverev

Medvedev naturally feels something like this. And especially against Sinner, he plays more aggressively than is actually his nature. But if the first volley doesn't work, then Jannik Sinner, in the form of 2024, will strike mercilessly. If there is a break in the very first service game, then in the case of Daniil Medvedev you can almost assume that the afternoon was a waste of time.

Which also applied to the second round. Medvedev's last resistance was broken at the latest when he lost his serve again to make it 1:4, and Jannik Sinner was able to hold off with almost no effort. After just 69 minutes of play the score was 6:1 and 6:2.

In the final, the third for Jannik Sinner in Miami, the winner of the game between Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov awaits on Sunday. Sinner still has a few unfinished business, especially with the German. So far he has only been able to beat Zverev in Roland-Garros in 2020. The four encounters after that all went to the 2021 Olympic champion.
