The 21-year-old qualifier in Alsace had to admit defeat 7: 5, 3: 6, 4: 6 to number five seeded Czech Barbora Krejcikova after the first three successes of her career at a WTA tournament. Due to her surprising entry into the semifinals of the dress rehearsal for the French Open, however, the current number 216 in the world rankings improved for the first time in the top 200 to 170th in the next evaluation.

In the semifinals on late Friday afternoon, Niemeier seamlessly built on her brilliant performances in the previous rounds against her four-year-old opponent. In the first round, the Westphalian made the second break with a score of 5: 5 and shortly afterwards converted her first set point. After that, however, the newcomer lost her rhythm, her first three service games and consequently also the second set. In the third round, Niemeier had to accept the decisive loss of service in the seventh game and congratulate Krejcikova after more than two hours of play.

Niemeier made the jump to the semi-finals last Thursday through a show of strength in a "double shift". After her two-set success against number seven seed American Shelby Rogers, the right-hander also eliminated the Dutch Arantxa Rus in the round of the best eight without losing a set. In the first round, Niemeier celebrated her first victory in the main draw of a WTA tournament with a 6: 4, 6: 3 win against Frenchwoman Diane Parry.
