Andy Murray: Comeback only in summer?

Andy Murray has so far not been on the tour in 2020. Whether that will change soon is questionable.

It was too good to be true. Andy Murray had quickly recovered from his near-career end a year ago. After his hip surgery, the Scotsman made his comeback in the summer, winning directly in a double alongside Feliciano Lopez at the Queen's Club and thrilling mixed with Serena Williams in Wimbledon. At the end of the season, Murray even celebrated a single tournament win in Antwerp. /

Murray then took a longer break from the season , but recently had to cancel a start at the Australian Open due to bruises in the pelvic area. And a comeback could be delayed further.

As the Daily Mail reports, Murray could not be back on the court until the summer lawn season. So far, nothing has been heard in public about Murray's appearance at the hard court tournaments in Indian Wells or Miami (for which he would need a wildcard for a main field start anyway). According to Sportsmail, getting fit for grass is a more realistic goal.

A start on sand could actually be problematic - at the French Open 2017 it was when Murray broke his hip in Roland Garros in the first place. In 2018 and 2019, Murray had only started his comebacks on lawns and avoided the sand.

Murray's management is silent

To a recent Instagram post by Stan Wawrinka that he was in a "Monday mood" when he couldn't exercise, Murray replied, "I have been like that for the past three years on Mondays."

Most recently, Murray had targeted a comeback for Montpellier and Rotterdam, but had withdrawn in each case.

A request from the Daily Mail to Murray's management remains unanswered, it says.

After his comeback, Murray had announced several times that he would now listen more to his body and take breaks, including at tournaments. He used to work in the past, despite many signs that recovery would be better. This was a mistake, as he now knows.
