What does the world rankings look like at the end of 2020? Our tips.
Jörg Allmeroth:
1. Novak Djokovic : Djokovic recently showed some weaknesses. Also had little time to regenerate. Nevertheless, I guess two Grand Slam titles and 1st place.
2. Rafael Nadal : The outstanding season 2019 will not be completely repeated. Strong clay court season, but potentially without crowning glory in Paris.
3. Stefanos Tsitsipas : In contrast to his predecessors, the World Cup title will provide a further boost. Will play a more important role in Grand Slams than in 2019.
4. Dominic Thiem . Now has the profile as a player to also win the first Grand Slam title. For me the French Open favorite. Needs economical tournament calendar.
5. Roger Federer . Should lose playful power. Wimbledon 2019 was potentially the last big chance for a GS title. Will certainly invest a lot in the Olympic tournament.
6. Alexander Zverev . Can he benefit from the entrepreneurial alliance with RF? His season break was short. I fear that the GS problems could continue.
7. Daniil Medvedev . After the giant run, especially in the second half of 2019, a reset will follow, followed by stabilization. Rather strong towards the end of the season.
8. David Goffin . Always an uncomfortable adversary who is simply in top ten format with no injury problems. Not necessarily one for the really big titles.
9. Matteo Berrettini : Will stabilize at a high level and focus on success in hard court tournaments. It is not enough for the top 5.
10. Alex de Minaur . The newcomer to the top ten. The modern edition by compatriot Lleyton Hewitt. The question remains whether he can continue his exhausting game for a long, very long time.
Nikolaus Fink:
1. Novak Djokovic : The Serb will be able to keep his form from the previous season, but Nadal not quite. Djokovic will laugh again from the top at the end of the season.
2. Rafael Nadal : He will remain Djokovic's number one competitor, especially on hard court it will be more difficult for the Mallorcan - at least in physical terms - but from year to year. That's why I see the 33-year-old just behind the Serb.
3. Dominic Thiem : The Lichtenwörther demonstrated in 2019 that he can now keep up with the best in faster places. It's not quite enough for Djokovic and Nadal, but Thiem will finish the upcoming season in the top three for the first time.
4. Roger Federer : The Swiss can do it easily. You don't have to say much more, even if another Grand Slam triumph is no longer too likely.
5. Alexander Zverev : After a not so strong season 2019, Zverev 2020 will act better. The German simply has the game to hurt every tennis player in the world.
6. Stefanos Tsitsipas : The Greek has proven that he is a big match player. In 2020, however, Tsitsipas will stagnate somewhat, the jump to the top will only take place in the next two to three years.
7. Daniil Medvedev : He lacks weapons to compete in the top three. In addition, the opponents seem to understand the game of the Russian better and better. 2020 will therefore not be quite as successful for the 23-year-old as the previous season.
8. Felix Auger-Aliassime : FAA has everything it needs for the top ten. So why shouldn't the Canadian be able to cause a sensation in the coming season?
9.Karen Khachanov : After a somewhat complicated year, Khachanov 2020 will do everything possible to turn things around. The Russian will also succeed, the jump into the top ten is definitely possible.
10. Stan Wawrinka : It doesn't really speak much for the 34-year-old, but Wawrinka has the potential to rule every opponent in the world on good days. I believe that in 2020, at least in two or three major tournaments, Stan the Man will be back where he belongs at the end of the season.
Jens Huiber:
1. Novak Djokovic - The greatest constancy, paired with two majors
2. Rafael Nadal - Almost there, unbeatable in Paris
3. Dominic Thiem - First Grand Slam victory
4. Alexander Zverev - Major breakthrough, two 1000 titles (Canada, Shanghai)
5. Roger Federer - Fewer tournaments but successful
6. Stefanos Tsitsipas - The little curse of the ATP world champion title
7. Stan Wawrinka - One last great hurray
8. Daniil Medvedev - The corrections (based on Jonathan Frantzen)
9. David Goffin - bit by bit too old class
10. Andrey Rublev - A solid body as the foundation
Robert M. Frank
1. Rafael Nadal (The Spaniard will continue to perform consistently in 2020)
2. Novak Djokovic (The "Djoker" loses ground to Nadal, but can still save the second place just ahead of the pursuers)
3. Stefanos Tsitsipas (the reigning world champion really gets going in 2020 and pushes in front of Federer)
4. Dominic Thiem (makes another good year, but cannot (yet) improve in the year-end ranking)
5. Roger Federer (The best times of the "Maestro" are over, although the long-standing world number one will also achieve strong results in 2020)
6. Daniil Medvedev (after his vertical start in 2019, the Russian will reach his (physical) limits in 2020)
7. Matteo Berrettini (The Italian can continue his successful run and make up ground)
8. Alexander Zverev (2020 is good for titles again, but not for so many to get higher in the ranking)
9. Denis Shapovalov (Will play in the top ten for the first time in 2020 and draw attention to himself with strong results)
10. Alex de Minaur (the 20-year-old Australian also managed to jump into the top 10)
Florian Goosmann:
1. Novak Djokovic (remains the most constant)
2. Dominic Thiem (continues to march forward thanks to his new hard court strength)
3. Rafael Nadal (continues to win but will have to pause injured again and again)
4. Roger Federer (plays less but successfully - what are 38 or 39 years !?)
5. Stefanos Tsitsipas (will have ups and downs in 2020)
6. Alexander Zverev (stagnant, something must finally happen for the top)
7. Stan Wawrinka (will be great again, a major final or title is in it)
8. Daniil Medvedev (I have serious physical concerns with him ...)
9. Felix Auger-Aliassime (too good not to be in the top 10 soon)
10. Grigor Dimitrov (yep, there is some hope. If he can do it: Chapeau! Otherwise "Shapo")
