Isner tried brute force - and initially kept up well with his own serve. He managed a tight service game to 4: 4, but in the end Djokovic managed to break to win the set - to zero. /

In set two, the world number one took the first boy from the US boy directly. After that, both left nothing to go on in service, Djokovic ended the match with his ninth ace - which brought him level with Isner.

Djokovic with 14th set win in a row

In the end, there were only 11 mistakes without need at Djokovic, at Isner it was 26. How far Isner was from the possibility of a break can be seen from the number of points as a setback: He only scored 8 out of 52 points here, 3 thanks to a double fault from Djokovic. The latter in turn won 24 of 63 points on the return.

Djokovic won his 7th match in a row - and his 14 set. The previous week he won the tournament in Tokyo.

Djokovic was previously out of action due to problems with his left shoulder, having given up against Stan Wawrinka at the US Open. The shoulder is now painless, but he has to spend several hours a day aftercare, Djokovic said at the beginning of the week.

He will meet the winner of the match between Hubert Hurkacz and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.

Thiem, Federer and Zverev still in use

Daniil Medvedev and Fabio Fognini had already made it into the round of eight. The three-placed US Open finalist Medvedev beat Vasek Pospisil 7: 6 (7), 7: 5, Fognini was successful against Karen Khachanov with 6: 3, 7: 5. Matteo Berrettini also won 7: 6 (5), 6: 4 against Roberto Bautista Agut.

Dominic Thiem, Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev also intervene in the course of the day. Thiem meets Nikoloz Basilashvili ( for the live ticker!), Federer plays against David Gofifn ( for the live ticker!) And Zverev against Andrey Rublev ( for the live ticker!).
