When Lucky Loser slipped into the main field, defeated Novak Djokovic there and then did not break in the match, but made the first final in a 500 tournament clear - there are worse weeks than Lorenzo Sonego's. The salary, in addition to 85,000 euros for the piggy bank: 32nd place in the ATP ranking, the highest so far for the 25-year-old Italian.

At the top, however? Nothing new. Novak Djokovic has secured the year-end number 1 without necessarily having made new friends in Vienna , followed by Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer as usual. Only Daniil Medvedev, now fifth, and Stefanos Tsitsipas have swapped places, Alexander Zverev follows in 7th place, with almost 1,200 points ahead of Vienna winner Andrey Rublev.

Grigor Dimitrov moved up to 18th place, but then Kevin Anderson earned real attention: The South African, who was number 5 in the world two years ago, afterwards injured and slipped for a long time, made his semifinals in Vienna - after victories over Pablo Carreno Busta and Daniil Medevedev, a jump back into the Top 100, namely in 86th place. And so they start the 2021 season from a much better starting position than feared.

Jurij Rodionov with career high

A look at the German players: Behind Zverev (7th) are Jan-Lennard Struff (35th), Dominik Koepfer (65th), Philipp Kohlschreiber (96th) and Yannick Hanfmann (97th).

In Austria Dominic Thiem (3rd) and Dennis Novak (95th) are the measure of all things. Jurij Rodionov made a leap forward after his surprise opening win in Vienna against Denis Shapovalov, from 153rd place to 143rd career high. Sebastian Ofner has also improved: after reaching the final at the Challenger tournament in Hamburg, he made 13 places good and is now on rank 158.
