Gradually, the participating teams and players had already leaked, now there is clarity about the ATP Cup (February 1st to 5th, 2021).
Due to the corona pandemic, the second edition of the team competition will now take place in February instead of the first week of January, following a 14-day quarantine period in Melbourne . And since you play in Melbourne Park anyway, it's hardly surprising that (almost) all the top players are at the start. Because the big advantage compared to a normal tournament: In the event of a defeat, the group games do not end immediately, so match practice in the run-up to the first major tournament of the year is safe.
In addition to world number one Novak Djokovic in defending champion Serbia, Rafael Nadal is also there for Spain, Dominic Thiem again alongside Dennis Novak in the Austrian team, and Alexander Zverev with Jan-Lennard Struff for Germany. The French Open winners Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies are also at the start.
The draw for the ATP Cup 2021 is planned for January 20th. The 12 teams are divided into four groups of three teams each, which play against each other in a round robin system. The four group winners then contest the semi-finals, the winners the final.
Only Roger Federer is missing from the top 15
Only Roger Federer is missing from the top 15 of the ATP world rankings this year. The Swiss is still fighting for his comeback after his knee injury and has canceled his participation in the Australian Open .
At the premiere in 2021, 24 teams were still there, when Serbia had triumphed over Spain in the final. Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal here and scored the decisive double alongside Viktor Troicki. Austria and Germany were already eliminated in the group stage.
